Nigerians React After FG Announce The Suspension Of Twitter Operations In The Country.

By OfofoLoaded | June 5, 2021 0

The Nigerian Twitter Community was hit with a shocking news this evening when the Federal Government announced the suspension of Twitter operations in the country.

The announcement was made in a statement which was issued out by the Minister for Information Lai Mohammed on behalf of the Federal Government stating that the FG has come to a conclusion of suspending the operations of the micro blogging site in the country indefinitely.

This comes after the site deleted some tweets from the president H. E Muhammadu Buhari allegedly threatening people who are attacking government facilities across the country by referring them to the experience of the 1967 Nigerian civil war.

During the time of posting this article, the micro blogging site was still functional in Nigeria and some of the people has shared thoughts on what they think about the FG shutting down Twitter in the country.

See some of the reactions;

A Cup of Khafi #EndSARS@acupofkhafi·48mNigeria for the love of God FIX UP!!!!!! How can you act so speedily and suspend Twitter NG because of a deleted tweet but leave the insecurity which plagues millions unchecked?! Make it make sense PLEASE!

ThugLife@ThugLife_Back·1hDear @jack & @Twitter, kindly block @MBuhari‘s account, and all other government officials’ account on Twitter, before the purported suspension of Twitter in Nigeria airspace takes effect. Signed: Concerned Nigerian Citizens

Tola@adetolaov·1hThe real news is not the government suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria, it’s that the government wants to start LICENSING SOCIAL MEDIA & OTT OPERATIONS IN NIGERIA. The regulation of social media is the real aim of all of this. It’s right there in the Ministry’s tweet.

#OurFavOnlineDoc @DrOlufunmilayo·34mFirst they tried to ban social media, It failed. Miserably failed. Then they tried to ban crypto, Seems it failed. Well I don’t know. Now they have banned Twitter. The biggest freespeech platform in Nigeria. Tomorrow these rogues will come and accuse us of demarketing .

Dr Toolz@toolzbeib·1hSince federal government came on twitter to announce the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, this might just be my last tweet, if you are seeing this, know that i love you guys My 2go username is Glosyglamour… maybe now i can reach master level TwitterSuspendBuharisAccount

moe@Mochievous·48mSo it means if Twitter set up shop in Nigeria, they would have gone to their office to arrest everyone there. Lock their office and put a big X on their walls.
