[AMust Read] Is This Happening Already? Fireboy, Rema and Mayorkun Already Taking Over From Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido

The top ten slots in most music charts these days no longer have Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy on them. Fireboy, Rema and Omah Lay dominate these charts. Have they taken over from the old guards?

Last year, we all didn’t even anticipate the changeover that happened. It seemed like an evolution. Like something erupted in the industry.

Mind you, this has not happened previously. The last then it tried to happened on a wide scale was 2016. When Lil Kesh, Korede Bello, Kizz Daniel and Reekado Banks all “blew up” at the same time.

However, what stifled their growth was the lackluster albums they had bar Kizz Daniel’s New Era. There was quality on Lil Kesh’s YAGIbut him leaving YBNL affected the success of that project. Korede Bello and Reekado Bankshad forgettable albums by the way.

But now, it seems there’s an evolution brewing up somewhere. You can sense it. It looks easy to blow up these days.

As I said in a podcast recently, streaming has leveled things. The tools accessible to established acts like Wizkid and Davido are equally available to every upcoming act out there.

The only thing missing is that level of access. The network. The relationships. The fanbase. And all of these could be gained in a number of years.

Back to the conversation. The likes of Fireboy, Rema and Mayorkun recently seem to be taking over already. There’s no waiting for one established act to retire. This change over is already in effect.

It’s July already now. Burna Boy has two singles so far this year. Wizkid has one. But all of these aren’t even the top 10 streamed singles.

But Which Singles Are Banging? Which Songs Are People Feeling The More?

Rema’s Woman. Mayorkun’s Betty Butter. And then there’s Omah Lay who has four singles in almost every chart.

What’s that telling us? Isn’t that a sign?

While the desires and dreams of Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido might have changed to one of conquering the international market. They are maligning the local music market.

There’s a void they’re leaving. It demonstrates that Burna Boy could be ousted from the throne. And in contrast. It might not be Wizkid. It might not be Davido.

It could be anyone from this set of new school artists.
