Super Eagles Striker Victor Boniface Expresses Frustration After Team Left Stranded for 13 Hours in Libya
Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has voiced his frustration after the Nigerian team, led by Austin Eguavoen, was left stranded for nearly 13 hours at Al Abaq Airport in Libya. The team’s chartered ValueJet aircraft was unexpectedly diverted from Benghazi Airport on Sunday night, just as the pilot was preparing to land.
The Libyan Football Federation failed to send any reception team or transportation for the Nigerian delegation, leaving them stuck at a small airport far from their destination. Their hotel in Benghazi was reportedly a 3-hour drive away. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made attempts to arrange alternative transportation, but the sudden diversion of the flight disrupted the plans.
Reacting to the incident, Boniface took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, expressing his frustration and calling on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to improve such situations. He tweeted:
“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no wifi, nowhere to sleep. Africa, we can do better @caf.”
The Super Eagles are set to face Libya on Tuesday, following their 1-0 victory in the first leg on Friday.
