OFOFOLOADED MUSIC REVIEW:- “Ghetto Love” By Wizkid Supposed To Be Tagged Freestyle Instead Of Official Single – (Our Review)

By OfofoLoaded | September 17, 2019 0

STARBOY,  Wizkid is back with a new jam. The song has been generating a lot of conversations on social media. While some are insisting that the song is a hit, others insist it is not even close. Oh well, that is what we are here for.

4 days ago, Wizkid  dropped his very much anticipated single “Ghetto Love” making it his first song this year.

The song is a vibe! Kudos to Killertunes for that killer beat. While the song is gaining popularity and airplay there has been mixed feelings concerning the lyrics .

Let delve into the review, shall we?

___________________________________________

As I  dey,  I  would  definitely dance to this in a party or at the club but I don’t think this song can be compared to previous works from Wizkid such as “Joy” and “Come Closer” in message and content.

If Wizkid had dropped Larry Gaaga‘s “Low” as his first official song of 2019, I swear it would have been booommm and  madd ooo.

You gave us “Low“, “Gbese” and your nice delivery on “Brown Skin girl”  with Beyonce was excellent, only to water it down with “For your matter, mo fo ooo“.

Let’s be sincere, Wizkid has passed the standard of “For your matter, mo fo wewe“.

From a different angle we could say he is responding to demand as the banging songs right now are filled with raw street slangs.

Let’s not even go as far as comparing “Ghetto Love” to Davido‘s “blow my mind“, the gap plenty gan.

Wizkid‘s poor lyrical delivery on this “Ghetto Love” would have been forgiveable if it was dropped as a freestyle.

Someone even said, you can only enjoy the song when you’re drunk ?

POSITIVES

Ghetto Love starts with a slow and solemn background female voice. We liked the voice. We liked how the voice faded away ad how the beat of the song became more prominent.
Wizkid’s vocals were clear and concise and that’s just about it. His vocal performance does not win him any extra points.

NEGATIVES

Wizkid’s lyrics are nothing to write home about. A lot of repetitions and no lyrical depth whatsoever. Another lazy attempt by Wizkid. We wish he would at least hire writers to help him compose meaningful lines. The lyrical structure of the song is non-existent. It just felt like a couple of disjointed ideas that were mashed together to produce this caricature of lyrics. The plot development seems somewhat manageable but hey, we do not want manageable, we want something we can listen to, relate to and find meaning in! It does not even have to be deep, is that too much to ask for eh, Wizkid?
Having join the two tope music producers in the space right now (Kel p & killer tunes), the beat however is another beautiful work. The melody seemed bland to us. We were just not feeling the song. We believe Wizkid should be held to a higher standard as he is a role model for a lot of upcoming artists.
