JUST IN : Spain’s La Liga set to resume June 11
The Spanish government announced this week that competitive sports could return on June 8, and Spain’s National Sports Council confirmed La Liga’s comeback date on Friday.
The Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis is scheduled to be played that day.
There won’t be any fans in the stands during the matches, and clubs must follow the league’s safety protocol, which was approved by the Ministry of Health.
Each of La Liga’s 20 teams have played 27 games, with 11 remaining on the season for each. Lionel Messi’s Barcelona squad is in first place with 58 points, two points in front of Real Madrid.
La Liga becomes the third major European league to announce its return to play. England’s Premier League will resume action on June 17, with Italy’s Serie A following three days later.
