“The consignments of the drug are being distributed to different countries in Africa based on zonal grouping. We have been told that Nigeria’s consignment is in Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja,” the source was quoted as saying. The unmanned source assured Nigerians that the federal government will make the best decision on the drug in the overall interest of its citizens. The source said the Nigerian government will subject the Madagascar herbal remedy to certain protocols before it can be administered in the country.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has ruled out the claim by Madagascar president, Andry Rajoelina’s, that a herbal tonic produced in the country can cure coronavirus patients. It should be noted that following the president’s assertion, African countries such as Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau have made plans to import the said ‘cure’, which according to Aljeezera contains the artemisia plant, commonly used to treat malaria.

The dismissal is coming days after several media had reported that Madagascar is curing Covid-19 cases with the herbal tonic and is the reason the country has had a 92% recovery rate out of its 128 cases. The country has recorded 128 coronavirus cases, and 92 out of that number have recovered, leaving 36 active cases. Also, no death has been recorded in the country. Madagascar is said to be using its own medicine to treat the virus. President Rajoelina launched the herbal tea, named COVID-Organics, on Monday, April 20.
