5 Things Which Put Burna Boy Ahead Of Davido & Wizkid In Nigerian Music International

Music Of The Week

Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid are the three main musicians carrying Nigerian Music on their shoulders and exporting good music overseas to the global market.

The three have been at each others neck for years now fighting over the crown of Nigerian Best Musician alive.

This has created a strong and dangerous enmity between the three trio who are leading Nigeria Music and to some degree, African Music to the global market.

However, like it is in a race, there could be only one winner in any competition and here are 5 things that put Burna Boy on the peddle stool of Nigerian Music ahead of Wizkid and Davido.

1 International Awards And Nominations

Burna Boy is arguably the best Nigerian international music export in the context of international music awards.

The three have all won BET Awards in their career. Wizkid accolades himself with BET 2012 International Act, BET 2017 International Act, and BET 2020 with Brown Skin Girl of Beyoncé.

Davido also accolades himself with BET 2014 International Act and 2018 International Act.

Also, Burna Boy has won BET on two consecutive years for International Act in 2019 and 2020.

Burna Boy stands tall over the two when we move to the ultimate international awards in the music industry world wide, the Grammy.

Burna Boy has earned two glorious Grammy nominations and this put him in all gratification, ahead of his two competitive colleagues; Davido and Wizkid.

Like what he did with BET, Burna Boy has gotten two Grammy Awards Nomination on two consecutive years. His first Grammy Awards Nomination for World Music Album was in 2020 with his African Giant Album.

Fast forward in 2021, he also earned Grammy Awards Nomination with his Twice As Tall for again, World Music Album.

2 International Album Recognition

Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have done well in the release of albums in their music career.

However, there is a disparaging differences between each artists album and how they perform on the international market.

It’s musically obvious that, when an album gets huge international recognition, the ultimate profit is it earning huge international album sales.

Burna Boy’s last two albums have proven to the fact that, he has earned more international awareness against that of Davido and Wizkid last two albums which they released.

Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall Album has garner huge international recognition to the extent of performing “Way Too Big”, a record of his Twice As Tall Album on one of the most watched American Talk Shows “The Late Night Show”.

This put him way up considering performing on big talk shows which have larger audiences in the United States.

We cannot also overlook the huge international recognition for getting a Grammy Nomination, and it’s a plus for him for setting the records on two consecutive times.

3 Social Media Gimmicks

Social Media have become one of the most powerful tools in the music industry world wide. Artists get millions of followers on social media and it helps them to interact and contact their fans more easily than ever before in the music industry.

However, individual artists has their own ways on how they live on social media, and there are only two ways, it’s either you are matured or display your childish acting the glare of your fans.

Burna Boy has proven to be more matured than Davido and Wizkid on social media.

To Burna Boy, it’s either sending a valuable message to his fans or talking about his songs, or even replying Davido and Wizkid who usually try to beef him on social media.

Unlike him, Davido will normally make needless display of wealth, especially money trying to impress and shade Burna Boy. Davido can go to the extent of crying on social media and this is not really helpful in building a more matured and corporate brand.

4 International Interviews

In the space of international interviews, Burna Boy is doing far better than Wizid and Davido.

Burna Boy has been on more powerful interview platforms than Davido and Wizkid.

He has been on platforms like the Late Night Show, Ellen DeGeneres, and Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Not mentioning interviews on The Break Fast Club, The NY Times, and The Guardian.

5 Idealism

Burna Boy’s interviews have always been a topnotch as a further decoration for his brand and how he tries to make the world see Africa and its beauty.

Burna Boy has consistently proven that, he is keen in promoting Africa in the best possible way than proudly bragging about his wealth in international interviews.

In His interview with Notion he made his point more clearer. He said;

“Really and truly, you’ve probably never heard anything happy about Africa, have you?” he asks rhetorically. “That’s what I’m trying to do. There’s really not much good news about Africa anywhere in the world so I’m just trying to show it is a happy place. At the same time, like everywhere else, we have our challenges and our fucked-up sides… but at the end of the day, we all still manage to wear a smile and go about our daily lives.>..
